Borough council seeking independent chair of audit committee
CHARNWOOD Borough Council is seeking an individual to take on the role of Independent Chair of the Council’s Audit Committee.
The committee meets approximately five times per year and is responsible for considering the council’s corporate governance arrangements.
This includes assessing internal and external audit activities, monitoring the operation of risk management, the council’s treasury management control and investment control arrangements, approving the statement of accounts and considering whether appropriate accounting policies have been followed.
Candidates should have well developed chairing skills and significant experience in at least one of the key areas of the committee’s responsibilities (external audit, internal audit, risk management, or accountancy). A professional qualification relevant to one of those areas is also desirable.
The appointment is for four years and the successful candidate will be eligible for an annual allowance of £3,608.
The appointment is not open to councillors or employees of the council. Expressions of interest should be submitted by March 1, 2021, and must include contact details and set out in no more than two sides of A4:

■ Any background knowledge or experience which might be relevant;
■ Confirmation of your political impartiality and independence from the council;
■ Confirmation that you live and/ or work within the borough of Charnwood.
Selection of the successful candidate will be by a panel of Councillors and will involve a remote interview. The start date of the appointment will be May 18.
