Baby shower busted by police for breaching lockdown law

HOST FINED AS PARTY-GOERS AND CAMPERS ALL FALL FOUL OF COVID RULES

-

Officers in Charnwood have fined the host of a lockdown-breaking baby shower.

The police gave no further details or where or when but they said in a tweet on saturday: “This evening response officers have issued a covid fixed-penalty notice to the occupant of an address hosting a baby shower.”

earlier in the week, officers in charnwood found themselves breaking up another party involving 16 people in a house in storer road, Loughborough.

eight of the people were fined £800 for hosting the party last weekend.

Also last weekend, a Leicester man was fined £200 for going camping up a mountain in the Lake District with a friend.

One of the men had breathing problems and when the mountain rescue volunteers went to help them in the middle of the night in sub-zero temperatures, one of the volunteers fell and suffered severe spinal injuries.

Police have also fined two off-duty Derbyshire officers who decided to meet up in Leicestershire last weekend.

They were fined and also referred to their police standards department.

The force said it had handed out more fines for lockdown breaches in January than in the whole of last year.

it issued a total of 889 fixed penalty notices between New Year’s Day and Tuesday, february 2, which is equivalent to about £170,000 in fines.

LEICESTERSHIRE residents could be leaving lockdown £3,000 richer if they scoop up the top prize in a local hospice’s ‘Superdraw’.

Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People’s Superdraw helps the organisation to raise the funds required to keep Rainbows running.

The hospice, which cares for more than 450 children and young people with life-limiting illnesses, has launched its Superdraw 2021 with a top prize of £3,000.

Other cash prizes of £250, £100, and £50 are also up for grabs.

Jennifer Varnam, Lottery and Supporter Engagement Coordinator at Rainbows, said: “This year has been so tough for so many, and I am sure £3,000 would be a very welcome prize.

“By buying a ticket, you will also be making a difference to the lives of the children, young people, and families we support each and every day.

“Because of Covid-19, we have had to cancel all our events, as well as close our shops, and fundraising has taken a big hit.”

Tickets, which cost £1, can be purchased until Friday, March 19. The lucky winner will be drawn on Friday, March 26.

“We also had to cancel last year’s Superdraw, so we are very excited that it is back,” Jennifer added.

“We hope that people will support us to continue providing the invaluable care to the children and young people who need our help.”
