Discount store Aldi has borough on list of potential new stores

-

ONE of the country’s biggest supermarkets is looking to expand into new stores in the area.

Known for its discounts and its special buys the Germanowned Aldi is now a staple in towns across Leicestershire.

There are still places without an Aldi store, although maybe not for long.

The supermarket wants to open more stores and has a list of places where it is looking for a site to put a new store.

The chain has two stores in Loughborough already, one at the Grange Retail Park and one on Belton Road

Now it has listed Shepshed as a potential site for a new store.

Other possible venues include Coalville, Ellistown, Narborough and Hinckley.

Aldi has not given any more details on any of their plans. On its website, Aldi says: “We are continuing to add to our store portfolio and 2019 allowed us to open many more stores.

“Our ambitious property investment and property development programme plans to continue our growth, so we’re always looking for great new sites and existing commercial properties.”

The company says it has “ambitious acquisition and development plans for all cities and towns in the UK and Ireland”.

It is looking for sites that are at least 1.5 acres with enough space for the store and more than 100 parking spaces, close to a town centre or on a retail park.

Our ambitious property programme plans to continue our growth, so we’re always looking for great new sites and existing commercial properties.
