Can you help to care for town’s oasis of calm?

MP BACKS COMMUNITY ALLOTMENT IN PLEA FOR VOLUNTEERS

-

LOUGHBOROUGH MP Jane Hunt is on the lookout for green-fingered volunteers to help look after a community allotment in the town.

Volunteers from the Marios Tinenti Centre community hub, on the Bell Foundry estate, tend an allotment in Great Central Road.

But despite their best efforts, the plot has become difficult to maintain, so the centre volunteers are looking for more help.

The work is helpful to the wider community. Volunteers will be able to grow their own produce which will be shared between themselves and the Marios Tinenti Centre, which will then distribute freshly grown and organic produce to households on the estate.

The allotment has a number of smaller vegetable boxes as well as larger plots, so can cater for volunteers with differing levels of commitment.

On a visit to the plot during National Allotments Week, which ends today, Ms Hunt learned of the valuable work taking place there.

She said: “This allotment is a mini oasis of peace and tranquillity and is a perfect opportunity for green-fingered volunteers to escape the worries of the modern world. By volunteering for the MTC, you will not only be growing produce for yourself, but also for households on the Bell Foundry estate.

“As we celebrate National Allotment Week, it would be great if we could breathe some new life into this allotment for the good of the whole community.”

If you are able to help, contact Ms Hunt at the email address below, or phone 01509 262 723.

The Marios Tinenti Centre is also looking for a donation of topsoil for the allotment. Anyone who can help with this is also asked to contact Ms Hunt.
