Sileby Swallows back on top of Division Two table
THERE is very little movement in the league table for the Bowls Loughborough Men’s Division 1 where Syston Fosseway retain their hold on top position with a resounding 75-31 (8-0) win on their travels to East Leake Willows and Birstall Sands hold on to second place following their excellent 65-37 (6-2) away win at Thringstone Woodpeckers.
Close on the heels of Sands is fellow club side Birstall Lighthouse who entertained Queens Park Queens, running out comfortable winners 61-46 (6-2) to leave both Birstall sides five and eight points behind the leaders respectively, but each with a game in hand.
Shepshed Rams had to share the points on their travels to Leicester to play Belgrave Cygnets, the final score in favour of Rams being 57-50 (4-4) whilst an excellent fight back by St Margarets Saints saw them collect a 58-40 (6-2) to win over Loughborough Phoenix Pegasus.
Sileby Swallows are back on top of Division 2 after their 53-46 (7-1) away win at Holt Drive against Loughborough Greenfields Badgers, moving above Quorn Weavers who suffered a setback against Rothley Crusaders at Rothley, the hosts winning comfortably 56-37 (7-1).
Loughborough Brush Peregrines entertained Kegworth at their Nanpantan green and took the majority of the points with a 61-47 (6-2) victory whilst there was a close scoring game at Syston where hosts White Plum went down 46-49 (2-6) to Wymeswold Wolds.
The final game in this division saw Sutton Bonington Riversiders take the spoils 51-42 (6-2) against bottom side St Margarets Maggies.
Soar Valley Merlins produced the best result in Division 3, the bottom side having a good 54-36 (6-2) win over mid table Loughborough Greenfields Foxes, whilst at the other end of the table, Syston Fosseway Romans continue to hold on to the top spot after they ran out winners 56-43 (6-2) against visitors Shepshed Lambs. Keyworth Commandos move up to take second place after their 48-43 (6-2) success against Syston Swords, which means Soar Valley Avons drop to third place following their trip to Quorn where they defeated hosts, Dons, 47-38 (6-2).
Two sides hovering near the foot of the table clashed at Belgrave where hosts Ringers just managed to secure a win on shots but had to settle for a share of the points in their game with Loughborough Brush Hawks, the final result being 49-46 (4-4).
Leaders Kegworth suffered a setback to their title hopes in the Ladies Tuesday morning league, when visitors Shepshed closed the gap between the two sides to one point with a solid 37-31 (5-1) win, with Wymeswold dropping to third place after they went down 37-29 (4-2) at home to Loughborough Brush.
In a close game at Bowling Green Way, hosts Loughborough Phoenix edged home 26-23 (4-2) against visitors East Leake whilst there was an even closer game at Holt Drive between hosts Loughborough Greenfields and Soar Valley, the game finishing even 20-20 (3-3). The mid table game between Sileby and Keyworth finished 35-37 (4-2) in favour of Sileby.
The big game in the Men’s Thursday evening Division 1 was between the top two sides, Shephed North and New Lount Hares and the game lived up to its expectation. Hares took the game 74-70 (7-3) but it was not enough to displace North at the top who hold onto a four point advantage with two games to go.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Loughborough Phoenix Flyers find themselves relegated after they suffered a 98-65 (8-2) defeat at the hands of Thringstone Rangers, and St Margarets Maggies 75-61 (6-4) win against East Leake Willows gives themselves a chance of survival, six points behind Rangers who they play next week.
Syston Fosseway moved to the top of Division 2 following their 73-62 victory over Wymeswold Wolds, deposing Loughborough Greenfields who went down 63-76 (8-2) against Quorn Millers. A very good game between Queens Park Carilloners and bottom team Kegworth finished all square on shots but Carilloners took the majority of the points on offer to finish the game 67-67 (7-3).
The top three teams in Division 3 all had big wins, leaders Loughborough Brush Eagles 72-46 (8-2) win against Rothley Knights keeps them eleven points ahead of Soar Valley in second place who had a comfortable 72-55 (8-2) win over Shepshed South. Sileby Swifts issued a timely reminder that they are chasing a promotion place, a 116-43 (10-0) victory against bottom team Soar Valley Valoars moves them to within four points of Soar Valley wth a game in hand of both of the top two teams.
New Lount concluded their fixtures this week and sealed the title in the Ladies Friday evening lead despite a surprise 27-40 (2-4) defeat on their travels to East Leake, the two points giving them an unassailable seven point lead over Shepshed Lambs who still have one game to play. Wymeswold kept themselves in the hunt for the second place slot with a clean sweep 44-28 (6-0) victory over Fosseway whilst in the only other game played, Shepshed Lions just had the edge over Quorn, running out 32-23 (4-2) winners.
