-

SHEPSHED’S 1st XI were at home this week with a game against league leaders Houghton and Thurnby’s 1st XI.

Shepshed were put into bat but after 37 overs they were bowled out for 206 with Jacob Stevenson top scoring with 56 along with 48 from Ben Clarke and 44 from Kesana.

After a rain delay a revised total was required by Houghton and Thurnby who needed 123 to win the game from 23 overs and the Shepshed bowlers dug in and bowled really well in the wet and damp conditions with Kasana and Agarwal both taking three wickets apiece.

Three wickets fell with the score on 117 to give Shepshed the edge and and that was the case as Houghton and Thurnby finished on 121-8 with Shepshed winning the game by 11 runs to topple the league leaders - a great result for Shepshed as this was only the second defeat this season for Houghton and Thurnby.

Shepshed’s 2nd XI were away at Highfield Rangers 1st XI and it was Highfield Rangers that batted first and scored 210 all out, the pick of the Shepshed bowlers was Adam Clapton who took three wickets. In reply Shepshed never got going and were all out for 131 as they lost by 79 runs.

Shepshed’s 3rd XI were at home with a fixture against Anstey & Glenfield 2nds and after 40 overs they had scored 194-5 with Pete Pitt’s scoring a superb 80 in just 11 overs but it was all for nothing as the heavens opened at the tea interval and the game was abandoned.

Shepshed’s 4th XI were away at Maher’s 4th XI and it was Maher who batted first making 221 all out, pick of the bowerls was Riley King who took three wickets.

After a further rain delay the game was reduced to 31 overs with Shepshed now needing 185 to win the game and Shepshed batted really well with Phil Warrington scoring a fantastic 70.

Skipper Mark Ashdown scored 47 and Dennis Trent scored 22 but it all came down to the last over but unfortunately for Shepshed the fell agonisingly three runs short of their target finishing on 182-7 and a narrow defeat.
