Late goal sees Ingles lose their unbeaten record

UCL DIVISION ONE INGLES 1 BELPER 2

-

A GOAL 15 minutes from time inflicted Ingles first defeat of the season and ended their four game unbeaten run.

A goal by Tom Davis just after half time was cancelled out after an excellent Matty Brown strike from 20 yards. Tom Davis was the match winner though after he fired past Webb to seal the win for Belper and maintain their 100% record at the top of the table.

After a tough run of four games in quick succession Ingles were missing a few players with injuries and illness. Granger opted to give Scargill his first start at left back with Rawson moving forward and Callum Hardy slotted in the midfield in place of Ojo to offer some fresh legs.

The first half was a fairly even affair with neither side really troubling the keepers. Belper probably had the lions share of possession and with a very direct style looked to release their pacey wingers at every opportunity.

The second half started with Belper dominating the ball and within five minutes they had found the break through. A ball in behind the Ingles back line wasn’t cleared properly and the ball fell to Davis on the left wing who slotted the ball into the far corner giving Webb no chance.

Like other games recently Ingles needed a response and to their credit they did again. Ingles upped the work rate and the introduction of Brown for Harry Smith helped this with his fresher legs. Brown began to push forward from midfield and support the front three.

Ingles goal came after good work down the right from Savage and Fowkes the ball found Brown on the edge of the area where he took a couple of touches before bending the ball past the outstretched arms of the keeper into the net. A great strike and what Ingles deserved after an improved showing after the goal.

The game looked like it was heading for a draw, with neither side looking like finding the winner, but with 10 minutes left, a ball forward for Belper found Davis who seemed to be in an offside position, however the flag never came and he was able to fire the ball past Webb.

Ingles huffed and puffed but with tired legs after the last few weeks back to back games it wasn’t to be and Belper held on to take the win.

Next up is for Ingles is a home game against Radford at the Dovecote on Saturday.
