Motorist ran off after crashing into living room

NO-ONE IN CAR OR HOME HURT

- By STAFF REPORTER

A DRIVER ran off after crashing into the living room of a home.

Witness Nicholas Smith said the vehicle was travelling at “motorway speed” in Moor Lane, Loughborough, at 3pm on Saturday.

Mr Smith said he was walking down the street with his dad, who uses a mobility scooter, and the car nearly hit them.

He said: “My dad was using the scooter on the road as the pavement was too bumpy.

“I had just told him to get off as I know what drivers are like in the area.

“We had just got past the shops and my dad was getting on to the pavement. Within 10 seconds, the car had tore past us.”

The car, which onlookers said was a red Mercedes, crashed into the front room of a terraced house.

Mr Smith said: “There is a very slight bump in the road close to the turning.

“The car hit the bump, the back end went out and it went flying into the house.

“They hit just underneath the front window – the bricks were pushed right in.

“I flew up there, went to see if everyone was all right and get them out the house.

“It’s amazing that nobody was injured, including the people in the car.

“But when I ran up to the driver he ran off.

“I said to him ‘ No use running away, you’ll make it worse’. But he got into a car and zoomed off. It was nuts.”

Mr Smith spoke to the passenger, who said the driver was doing a test drive of the vehicle, but he did not know his name.

Nobody has been arrested.

A police spokesman said: “At about 4pm on Saturday, officers received a report of a car having collided with a property in Moor Lane, Loughborough, causing damage to the building.

“The road was closed while officers and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue attended.

“No injuries were reported and the car was recovered.

“Officers worked alongside agencies to ensure the building and road were safe.

“The road reopened at about

4pm on Sunday.”
