Cheers! Huge beer and bands festival on way

BREW BEAT WILL TAKE PLACE OVER BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND

- By BECKY JONES

LEICESTER is to host a huge craft beer and music festival this month and it’s free to go along.

Brew Beat will take place in Green Dragon Square over the August bank holiday weekend, from Saturday, August 28 to Monday, August 30.

There will be a live music stage, beer tent and food delivery from local restaurants, as well as a host of special craft beers available at pubs and bars across the city.

Local and national breweries will feature in the festival, including well-known names such as Framework, Tiny Rebel, Beavertown, Charnwood Brewery and London Fields.

Visitors will be able to choose from more than 100 carefully selected beers from what is described as “the cream of the crafty breweries”.

The Brew Beat craft beer line-up will include flavours including Sour Power from BeaverTown, Clwb Tropica from Tiny Rebel, Bourbon Barrel from Magic Rock, New England IPA from Love Lane plus many more.

There will also be non-alcoholic options and soft drinks available.

As well as the craft beer, the event will showcase more than 40 live music acts covering a wide range of genres - primarily from the city’s music scene, as well as talent from further afield.

Some of the acts playing over the three-day festival include Soul

Clique, Harri Georgio, Jafro, Michael Vickers, FunkNation, Ninja Bob, King Brasstards and Crowd Company.

The main stage will close at 9pm each day, but festival-goers can then visit a trail of venues around the city that will be hosting their very own guest craft beers and other themed refreshments.

Venues include Queen of Bradgate, Two-Tailed Lion, Rutland and Derby, The Globe, Manhattan34 and many more of the city’s pubs and bars. The food offering at the event comes from the city’s restaurants thanks to Dine in the Square, allowing customers to order food directly from local businesses to their table in the festival hub.

Brew Beat attendees can simply scan the QR code on their table with a smart phone, order and pay to get their food delivered.

Restaurant choices include Mowgli, Chutney Ivy, Desi Street Food, Giggling Squid, Pai, Crafty Burger, Sonrisa, Chinese Snack Box and Cocoa Amore. The event is funded by BID Leicester and initiated and delivered by three local businesses.

Steamin’ Billy will be providing the selection of drinks from the festival hub on Green Dragon Square.

“We can’t wait to bring the city’s first ever craft beer and music festival to Leicester,” said Simon Jenner, director of BID Leicester, funders of the event.

“Brew Beat will be a celebration of local talent – from emerging performers to the best local breweries. After a difficult year for our nighttime industries, being able to host events like this will help drive footfall directly into our pubs and bars to benefit the local economy.”

The festival site on Green Dragon Square will be free to enter, however once capacity is reached a one-in, one-out policy will operate. It will be table service throughout the site.
