Put them through their paces at Belvoir Castle

WALKERS and dog lovers are being invited to join the Great British Dog Walk at Belvoir Castle later this month.

The event, run by national charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, is making its return following the Covid-19 lockdown.

The charity trains dogs to alert deaf people to important sounds, as well as provide love, companionship and emotional support.

The contact-free event will take place on Sunday, August 29.

Participants can choose a staggered half-hour time slot to set off, with 3km and 8km walking options available.

Hundreds of walkers and their pets are expected to attend the event, which is sponsored by Specsavers.

Carina Hummel, general manager at Specsavers Audiology, said: “The Great British Dog Walk is an excellent way for people to have fun, get some exercise, meet likeminded people and perhaps most importantly, meet lots of cute dogs while supporting a good cause.

“We’re very much looking forward to the walk at Belvoir Castle and hope lots of people will come along and show their support.

“If every person who walked the Great British Dog Walk raised just £10 above the cost of their event ticket by getting themselves or their dog sponsored, the charity could fully train another dog.”

It costs about £40,000 to fully train and support a hearing dog for the duration of its life.

Tickets are £10 for adults, or free for children under 16 years.

Each adult ticket comes with a free bandana, and all walkers will receive an activity-filled walker pack. Anyone who raises £25 or more will also receive an additional free gift as a thank you.

Event bookings must be made in advance.

The Belvoir Castle event is one of 15 fund-raising dog walks taking place around the UK between the end of August and October.
