Assisted living flats officially opened

-

A new adult social care facility in Loughborough has been officially opened.

New Ashby Court is the third new adult social care scheme opened by Leicestershire County Council this year.

The two small blocks of flats have been refurbished to support adults with learning disabilities and adults aged over 18 coming into adult social care services.

Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, Councillor Dan Harrison, attended and said: “These flats will be fantastic new homes for our residents who need support to gain more independence.

“It is so important that we can support our residents with additional needs.”

Supported living gives adults with additional needs the opportunity to live independently and to learn life skills, while receiving help from support professionals.

Councillor Christine Radford, cabinet member for adult social care, joined the chairman to visit New Ashby Court with cabinet support member for adult social care, Cllr Ted Parton, and local member for Loughborough north west, Cllr Max Hunt.

Mrs Radford said: “This marks an exciting new step for the residents who will move into New Ashby

Court.

“For a lot of these residents, it will be the first time they’ve lived out of residential care, the first time they’ve had a home to call their own.

“Moving out of residential care into our communities gives these adults the opportunity to learn skills and become more independent in a safe and supportive environment and where they know that all the help they need is on site.”

Over the last 18 months, 54 new accommodations in seven locations have been opened, with the county council investing over £5 million in providing adult social care accommodation across Leicestershire. Mrs Radford added: “We are developing housing for older people, adults with learning and physical disabilities and adults with mental health needs as a priority.

“We are committed to providing the best care we can. Wellbeing is at the heart of the work we do and living in suitable accommodation is a vital part of this.”

Other recently opened properties are Copton Ash in Markfield, Hollow Road in Anstey and Forest Road in Loughborough, which all provide independent living flats to support adults with learning disabilities or mental health difficulties.
