Plea for dog foster carers to help home pets like Angel

-

A rehoming charity is looking for dog lovers to open up their homes and hearts by fostering a dog while they wait to be adopted.

The team at Dogs Trust Loughborough is looking to recruit foster carers who live less than an hour’s drive from the Wymeswold centre, don’t have children under the age of 16, have their own transport and could go along to appointments at the centre during the week.

Ria Martin, manager of the Home from Home scheme, said: “Some dogs, such as very young dogs, older dogs, dogs who are poorly or perhaps recovering from an operation and dogs that just don’t settle into kennel life, really benefit from being able to continue to enjoy their home comforts and the love of a family until they find a new forever home.

“We know the requirements are quite specific, but we are really hoping there are people out there who want to give dogs a little bit extra TLC in their hour of need.”

One dog the team would like to find a foster home for is three-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier cross, Angel. She arrived at the rehoming centre in March this year after a change in her family’s circumstances meant she could no longer stay with them.

When she arrived, Angel was very timid and so was immediately placed with foster carers where she grew in confidence and showed herself to be very affectionate, loved to be with people and started to show her playful side.

Ria said: “Angel would not have coped well in kennels, so to be able to place her with foster carers was crucial.

“She settled very well and we learnt so much about her; we could see the real Angel rather than the anxious girl who came to us.

“We thought we had found a forever home for Angel but unfortunately that didn’t work out so we want to find her another foster home where she can continue to build her confidence and be truly ready to find the special someone she deserves.”

Although Angel is looking for a foster home without any other dogs, foster carers can have a dog of their own as long as they are happy to welcome a canine companion into their home.

Fostering is completely free and Dogs Trust Loughborough will provide everything from food, toys, bedding and any medication the dog needs, as well as 24/7 support and advice. Call 07920658692 or e-mail:
