CARILLON 1ST XI 14 MANSFIELD 3RD XI 0

LOUGHHBOROUGH Carillon recorded their biggest win of the season by demolishing Mansfield.

The visitors were one of the few sides Carillon got to play in league action last year before the second lockdown prematurely ended the season.

On that occasion, Carillon routed their opponents reaching double figures and history repeated itself on Saturday.

Despite missing a few players Carillon were still able to name a strong line up and didn’t take long to open the scoring with Ruaidhri Maguire seizing on a lose ball in the circle and flicking home from the angle. From that moment the goals didn’t stop with Alex Relf thumping one into the corner, Maguire grabbing his second and Steve Livingstone scoring his first with some close control and neat finish.

However, the performance of the first half came from Tom Wood who came off the bench to bag a first half hat-trick.

With the game over as a contest at half time, the team were challenged to keep the intensity up during the second period. These words were heeded by the team and they set about their tiring opposition with glee, Tom Lawrie roofing a drag flick to get the score board ticking before Wood grabbed his fourth of the day.

Still there was no let up as the second half became the Maguire show as he scored three more times to bring his personal tally up to five and collect the man of the match award. Nestled in between Maguire’s goals were a couple more for Livingstone who also ended with a hat-trick.

On a day where 14 goals were scored it is perhaps no surprise that the focus is largely on the forwards. However, the defence, consisting of Sam Beavon, Tiérnan Maguire, Charlie Woodfield, Ollie Wardle and Tom Lawrie plus the defensive midfield work of Harry White, provided the platform for Carillon to attack with confidence and left goalkeeper Johnny Hie in a largely

spectating role. • A young Carillon 2nd XI faced a tricky away trip to Rugby 7th XI but belied their inexperience and returned with a comprehensive 6-0 win. In truth,

Rugby never got close to troubling Carillon as the team played superbly throughout with the defensive unit a particular stand out. On the scoresheet were Kellan Patel with a brace, with other contributions coming from Rahul Acharya, Charlie Clarke, Alex Middleton and Alex Carter. • Carillon 3rd XI couldn’t make it a

clean sweep as they came up against a strong and experienced Belper Development side coming out on the wrong end of a 3-1 result, Kian Bhagat with

the goal.
