Queen’s Park crowned with the Green Flag prize for 13th successive year
A PARK in Loughborough has achieved the national standard of excellence for the 13th year running.
Queen’s Park, which is managed by Charnwood Borough Council and its open spaces partner idverde, has won the Green Flag Award once again.
The scheme is run by Keep Britain Tidy and recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces across Great Britain and worldwide. The Forest Road Green Belt in Loughborough, which is maintained by idverde and volunteers, also received a Green Flag Community Award for creating and managing wildlife areas in the town.
Cllr Jenny Bokor, lead member Loughborough, said: “This is another fantastic achievement for Loughborough, which once again highlights the commitment we have in maintaining our parks to a high standard.
“We are incredibly proud of our open spaces, and the Green Flag scheme celebrates the hard work and dedication of our partners and the volunteers at Friends of Queen’s Park.
“I would also like to congratulate the Green Belt Gardeners for achieving a Green Flag Community Award, which is testament to the hard work of the volunteers.
“A huge thank you to idverde who help to maintain Queen’s Park and the Forest Road Greenbelt, along with all of the volunteers who have been involved in helping to keep these open spaces looking fantastic for the local community to enjoy.”
The award comes shortly after Loughborough achieved gold at this year’s East Midlands in Bloom competition – the tenth time the town has been awarded gold since 2011.
