Students lead all four divisions of league...
STUDENTS G have made a very impressive start in Division Four of the Loughborough and District Table Tennis League, taking maximum points from their opening three fixtures.
Liam Smith, Dev Patel, Milan Gosic, Thomas Georges and Abdulrahman Shaikh all contributed singles victories as they have made short work of Packington Pirates, Draycott Debutants and Melbourne Swifts B.
Charnwood Hackers and Sawley Tempted look to be the Students’ most likely title rivals as they have both made good starts.
Gary Baines produced two man of the match performances in victories over Packington Pirates and Charnwood Gladiators, whilst a double from Sean Fletcher ensured they were held to a 3-3 draw by Draycott Debutants.
Tempted have been champions at this level in the past and it is no surprise to see them pick up a couple of victories.
Their experienced combination of Louise Watson and Linda Walshe proved too strong for Melbourne Swifts B before a team consisting of players newer to the game pipped Charnwood Gladiators 4-2.
Tem Eradhun won one of his singles and was narrowly beaten by Zak Winterton in the other but the night belonged to Phil Knowles in his first league outing. He took both his singles to help steer his side to an important win.
The strength of Loughborough Students is highlighted as they are the leaders of all four divisions in the league’s early weeks.
Everything their top sides are doing in the top flight is being matched lower down the leagues with Students E and F filling the top two spots in Division Three.
They already have five wins between them with the only blip coming when the two sides faced each other and Students E romped home 6-0.
