Funeral firm holds Service of Remembrance for veterans
A LOUGHBOROUGH funeral directors has held its annual Remembrance Service which was well attended.
Kriss Morrison Cooper Independent Funeral Directors invited Armed Forces Veterans the company has carried out funerals for.
The first year they did this there were just 12.
This year the figure has risen to 55.
A spokesperson said: “As there were so many families to invite the event was held at The Cedars Hotel this year where the service took place outdoors in the marquee with the guests enjoying refreshments after, inside the hotel.”
The service included a speech by Bill Brown, Chairman of Leicestershire and Rutland Royal British Legion, a poem read by Suzanne Buckeridge and the Roll of Honour read by four members of the staff.
This was followed by the Act of Homage and the dipping of the three Royal British Legion Standards on parade, followed by Last Post, played by Mick Wells, and a minutes silence.
The service was concluded by everyone singing “We’ll meet again”.
Julie Smith, The British Legion Ambassador for Kriss’s, said: “We continue to honour all veterans who come into our care. This year was particularly poignant for many families as they had not been able to have the final send off for their loved one that they would have wished for due to Covid regulations and restrictions.
“We sincerely hope that our Remembrance Service helped them in some way. We will continue to add names to our Roll of Honour which is displayed in our window throughout Remembrance time.”
