Youngsters star in Warriors away win

NETBALL PREMIER LEAGUE TWO OAKSWAY 40 CHARNWOOD WARRIORS 60

CHARNWOOD Rutland Netball Club made the long trip to Hartlepool to play Oaksway in sixth round of England Netball’s Premier League.

Charnwood were missing four of their senior players giving the youth a big opportunit­y this week. The match started with Oaksway the more physical side and their defence disrupting Griffin and Gallacher’s usual connection. McGlynn and Brown worked tirelessly in defence to make numerous turnovers giving Warriors the early lead 10-7.

Warriors still struggled to find their rhythm in the second quarter with Oaksway edging the score back to level, Lount and Robinson made some key intercepti­ons to resettle Warriors and take the lead 25-16.

Half time saw a key message from head coach Griffin “To play our own game and focus on centres to goal” whilst youngsters Watts and Tooms with her debut entered the match.

Both made instant impact with Watts fearless in attack and speed of movement Oaksway defence had no answers to stop the young gun.

Tooms in defence connected in with the unit and made some brilliant intercepti­ons. Alexandar and Robinson kept the attack and defence connected and the Warriors pulled alway 42-30.

Sixteen-year-old Castledine entered the match at GS, she came on calm and composed scoring as soon as she caught the ball, the young circle of Castledine and Watts was impressive.

Robinson had one of her strongest performanc­es connecting the team and keeping everyone calm against a strong Oaksway, earning her player of the match as Warriors took the win in a tough match 60-40.
