Seven qualify for regional championsh­ips

SEVEN swimmers from Loughborou­gh Town Swimming Club qualified for the East Midlands Short Course Regional Championsh­ips at Harvey Hadden Sports Village last weekend.

Abbie Ruddle (18) qualified in six events in the 16 years and over category. Abbie swam in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke and 100m Individual Medley. Abbie qualified for the final of the 200m butterfly, finishing in 8th place in a personal best time.

The other six swimmers were all racing in the Junior age group (15 years and under). James Lake (14) took part in the 400m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 100m Individual Medley. Jack Goldfinch (15) swam in the 50m and 200m backstroke and Jasper Ley-Sneyd, also 15, in the 100m Individual Medley. Finn Reed (14) raced in the longest event in the pool, the 1500m freestyle and finished in 6th place.

Finally, sisters Francesca (15) and Elizabeth (13) Palfrey swam in the 800m freestyle and 200m backstroke respective­ly.

All swimmers gained valuable experience from taking part in this event racing against the top swimmers from East Midland Clubs
