Quorn made to pay for missed chances

UCL PREMIER DIVISION NORTH QUORN 1 GRESLEY ROVERS 2

QUORN fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of Gresley Rovers on Saturday in Richard Lavery’s first match at the helm.

The team seemed to have new foud energy and urgency and had the chance to open the scoring when Gresley defender Alex Morris was adjudged to have fouled Kyle Bryant in the box but Bryant’s spot kick was saved by Gresley keeper Lewis Fenney.

The penalty save deflated the home side and energised the visitors who were awarded a penalty of their own after 34 minutes which Seal converted to give Gresley a 1-0 lead.

After the break Quorn again took control and on 55 minutes were awarded their second penalty of the game when Morris was sent off for blocking a shot with his arm and Liam Hearn made no mistake from spot to level the scores.

Back on level terms and with a one man advantage it looked like Quorn would go on to take all three points.

They had a golden chance to take the lead when Hearn was clean through but with the goal at his mercy he blasted over the bar.

Quorn were made to pay for their missed chances when Gresley sub Izak Reid volleyed home against the run of play to give the Moatmen a 78th minute lead which they held on to until the final whistle.
