Charity that lost over £75,000 due to virus appeals for help

-

THE Steps centre in Shepshed has appealed for help as it re-opens to the public and tries to recover from the impact of Covid-19.

The Steps Conductive Education Centre reopened recently for face-toface sessions.

It is now asking for the public’s help.

The Steps Centre is a charity that relies on fundraising as it receives no statutory money. It costs £220,000 every year to pay for the dedicated staff and to run the centre. Every year they work hard to raise funds by writing to Trusts and Foundations. They also rely on their supporters who so kindly organise local fundraising events and activities.

A spokesperson said: “In 2020 we lost over £75,000 in funding through cancelled fundraising events and this year, we will be losing a similar amount because of the pandemic and this has had a devastating effect on meeting our overall needs. We are facing a serious challenge to continue to fund Steps – a charity that helps to transform the abilities and development of the very special little children who attend.

“To help us raise essential funds we are launching our Autumn Winter Appeal where every penny raised will support the remarkable, lifechanging and life-enhancing service that we offer free to the special children who attend Steps.

“Please, can you help us? Do you know of a Company who would be prepared to give a donation to Steps?

“Do you know if your employer has a charitable fundraising initiative which could benefit Steps?

“Could you organise an event at work where members of staff may sponsor, support, give a donation – and maybe the Company might match what you raise?

“Can you organise an event, such as a sponsored bike-ride, ramble, swim-a-thon – the possibilities are endless? These events often raise very significant amounts.

“Of course, we will publicly thank every xompany or supporter on our social media platforms so please send us your pictures too!

“We have a target of £25,000 which we need to raise. If you can offer any help in any way, please contact Trish, our Fundraiser and Operations Manager. Trish would love to hear from you. Email: fundraiser@ stepscentre.org.uk

“And if you’re online shopping at Amazon please use Amazon Smile and choose Steps Conductive Education Centre as your charity. It takes five minutes, costs you nothing and raises funds for Steps.

“We are working very hard to raise funds with some exciting events that are coming soon and we will be in touch with more details over the next few weeks.”
