New homes are planned

-

PLANS have been filed to build more than 90 homes to the north of Markfield, with an estate of 282 homes already set to be built in the village.

An area of pastureland between Ashby Road and the A50 could be developed into a complex of 93 homes, with access from Ashby Road.

The site falls largely within Charnwood borough but the access road and part of the development site would be within Hinckley and Bosworth borough, meaning planning permission is needed from both authorities for the project to go ahead.

The scheme would include 40 per cent affordable homes, with more than 200 car parking spaces to be created across the housing estate.

A traffic assessment filed with the plans said that the development would only “marginally increase” delays ands queueing on roads in the area. An unpopular scheme for 282 homes on fields to the south of London Road was approved in April of this year. Several residents spoke out against the Jelson Homes development during the planning meeting where it was considered, raising concerns about additional traffic and pollution.
