A man who was punched and attacked by a group of teens on a village high street said he “couldn’t stop shaking” after the ordeal and wants justice.

John Gadsby, 35, was attacked by six youths in Sileby last week when he tried to take a picture of their number plates after they egged his car.

John, who moved to the village from Glasgow to look after his grandma - who has dementia - was working when the attack happened on Sunday, October 31.

John said: “I work for Sileby Fish Bar and I was out doing deliveries on Brook Street when a group on mopeds and dirt bikes stopped bang in the middle of the road.

“I beeped at them and had to drive around them because they wouldn’t move – that’s when they egged my car.”

It was an hour later, at 5pm, when John saw the mopeds parked up on High Street.

He said: “I went up to take a pic of the number plates. There were three of them there at the time but I thought I’d be okay because I was just outside the Tesco.

“They came at me and pushed me out of the way, swearing at me.

“Then I got a punch in my face and at the side of my head.

“I managed to push one of them to the ground, but there were more punches coming at me.”

John said he tried to get away and cross over to the other side of the road, but the group followed him and carried on the attack.

He said: “Some people came over to break it up, and I managed to get away in the end.

“I haven’t been in a fight since I was in school, so I was shaking like mad. I went back to work, had halfan-hour break and had a cup of tea before I called the police.”

John then took to Facebook to share his ordeal in the Sileby Community Group and warn others of the incident.

He said: “Off the back of that post, one of the parents messaged me to say it was her son involved and has now apologised. She even came back with another name, which I’ve passed on to the police.” A spokesperson for the police has appealed to the public for information regarding the incident.

They said: “Officers are carrying out further inquiries after a man was assaulted in High Street, Sileby, on Sunday evening (October 31).

“The victim was initially driving along Brook Street when he saw a couple of cyclists in the road who threw eggs at his vehicle.

“Later he was in High Street when he confronted them, he was then involved in a fight with a number of youths. The victim sustained minor injuries.

“If anyone has any information about the incident or knows who was involved in the fight they are asked to contact 101, quoting incident number 21*634147 or visit the police website.”
