Council road has too many pot-holes for bin lorry to get down

NEIGHBOURS HAVE NOT HAD REFUSE COLLECTED FOR MONTH

I have to drive a horse box up the same lane – if we can get livestock up and down, what’s their issue?

THREE farms have not had their bins collected for a month – because the county council-owned road leading to them is too pot-holed for the bin lorry to get down.

The last collection at James Collie’s farm, along with his two Moor Lane neighbours, was made by Charnwood Borough Council’s waste and recycling department on Tuesday, October 5.

They have all had to load up their own cars and drive the waste down to the tip.

James, a Hereford cattle farmer, said when his neighbour complained to the council they were told the reason behind the delay was due to the “deterioration” of the road leading to the farms.

He said: “This happened five years ago and we accepted it because we were notified, but this time there’s been no letter, no phone call – we’ve had to use our own cars to get rid of the waste, and I’m sure you can imagine the smell that’s lingering in there now.

“I have to drive a horse box and cattle up and down the same lane – if we can get cattle and livestock up and down, what’s their issue?”

James said a section of Moor Lane, a historic road that used to run to the River Soar, does have many pot-holes and has deteriorated over time, but added: “It’s owned by the council, not us, so we can’t do anything about it. “I have three of my kids living at home, so we’re all working at home. The bins are small and, with all of us at home, the rubbish builds up quite quickly.

“When you’re paying council tax you feel a bit annoyed at the matter, like we are, but it’s more the fact they didn’t have the decency to let us know.”

A Charnwood Borough Council spokesman offered apologies to the residents of Moor Lane and says the issue has been reported.

He said: “Our refuse vehicles are currently unable to access part of Moor Lane due to the poor condition of the road.

“We are putting other arrangements in place to collect recycling and refuse from the properties we cannot reach and will be contacting those affected directly.

“We have reported the issues with the road to Leicestershire County Council and as soon as the road surface is improved to accommodate our vehicles, we will resume a normal collection service to the affected properties in Moor Lane.”
