CHURCH APPOINTMENT. After Sutton Bonington and Normanton-on-Soar have spent several months without a permanent Anglican priest, the Rev. Tim Parker from the United Benefice of East Leake currently including four other local parishes is to become Team Leader and Priest-in-Charge.

The Rev. Parker is currently Priest-in-charge of East Leake, West Leake, Stanford-on-Soar,

Rempstone and Costock.

With his new responsibilities for Sutton Bonington and Normanton on Soar he will exercise oversight over seven parishes but he will be supported by two Associate Ministers.

In a statement issued by the local Archdeacon, the new team of seven parishes will also have a full-time ordained Associate Minister and a 50% ordained Associate Minister living in Sutton Bonington.

The full-time Associate Minister will be based at East Leake and will support “growing disciples” over the seven parishes. The post is temporary for four years and it is funded by Strategic Development funding.

The Part-time Associate Minister will be living in Sutton Bonington vicarage but will be “supporting growing disciples” across the parish.

The part-time post is described as “).5 House for Duty” which means part-time ministry with a free house but no salary.

One of “strategic developments” in the extended group “would be the continued development of local lay ministry, which has been flourishing in the vacancy”

The Archdeacon said: “The intention would be that the ordained ministry team would give support and oversight for those in lay leadership roles in a more intentionally ‘team-focussed’ approach.”

In addition “there would also be the on-going contribution of retired clergy who, while totally committed to the mission across the villages, rightly have the flexibility to alter their time commitments if their circumstances change.”

The intention is to appoint to both the Associate Minister posts as soon as possible.”
