Europe in the spotlight
MEMBERS of Sileby Photographic Society met on Monday, November 8, when one of its own members, Patrick Crowhurst, presented ‘an evening of his choice’.
Patrick had spent much of his working life in Central Europe, where he had travelled extensively, and the images which he had recorded on camera over many years formed the basis of his presentation, ‘Exploring Central Europe’.
Strong emphasis lay on the busy main square, buildings, architecture and various monuments and tombstones to be found in the centre of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, and surrounding areas. Images taken whilst in the administrative city of Karviná were quite beautiful in their own distinctive way and these contrasted well with those taken whilst exploring the more peaceful rural life, particularly around the Vitava River.
The same could be said for images captured on camera whilst visiting Romania, a favourite part of the world for Patrick, and which too could proudly boast similarly beautiful architecture amongst the old and new. Rural life was well represented too.
His audience had also been treated to a comprehensive history and geography lesson during his presentation which he, himself, described as a rag bag of all sorts of images taken over many years but very well received.
John Hoogerwerf, President, thanked Patrick for an interesting and factual talk which accompanied his pictures.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, November 22 at St. Mary’s Church Centre, Mountsorrel Lane, when the Panel Competition will take place. The judge on this occasion will be Carol McNiven-Young, FRPS, EFIAP, CPAGB, BPE4*.
