Charnwood and Loughborough share the spoils

-

CHARNWOOD women’s first team were back in winter league action with a mouthwatering home fixture against local rivals Loughborough Town.

Despite the very windy conditions at the Nanpantan courts the match produced some superb tennis.

In the first round Town’s number 1 couple swept aside Caroline Wilkinson and Charlie Salisbury with near faultless tennis.

Meanwhile, Holly Cheeseman and Emily Rodbourne were cruising through their first round against Town’s 2nd couple.

The reverse matches followed with great tennis from Wilkinson and Salisbury taking the two sets against their opposite numbers. Cheeseman & Rodbourne gave their all but were narrowly defeated 6-4, 6-4.

Charnwood spokesman Andrew Smith said: “A draw in this match was a fantastic result in a great advertisement for Loughborough tennis.

“If we can keep playing like this I’m sure we will have some more great matches this season.”
