Mystery over lights damage as no collision has been reported

SEVERE damage caused to traffic lights at a major roundabout in Markfield, near junction 22 of the M1 remains a mystery.

The lights at Field Head roundabout were smashed and lying close to the ground on Wednesday - but no traffic collision has been reported.

Authorities remain baffled as to what caused the damage.

A spokesperson for police: “We have had no reports of a road traffic collision or of any incident at that location.”

Leicestershire County Council said yesterday that the lights have now been fully repaired by its workmen.

A spokesperson said: “Work happened immediately to make the equipment safe.”
