Thousands attend lights switch on

-

LOUGHBOROUGH’S Christmas lights have been switched on during a fun-packed day of events on Sunday.

The event in the town centre, organised by Charnwood Borough Council, saw a host of festive fun which included children’s fairground rides, musical performances, a food court area, and a market.

The Christmas lights were officially switched on by the cast of the Loughborough Town Hall panto, Aladdin.

It marked a return for the event which was cancelled last year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Cllr Jenny Bokor, the council’s lead member for Loughborough said: “It was great to see residents come together and get into the festive spirit by enjoying the Christmas lights switchon in Loughborough.

“We were privileged to enjoy so many fantastic acts on the main stage throughout the day with live performances as well as fairground rides and an arts and crafts fair in the Town

Hall.

“It was also great to see this year’s panto cast from Aladdin switch on the lights.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported the event and it marks a real countdown for Christmas.”

The entertainment on the main stage was opened by local performer Sarah Clarke with the LSU Tuxedo Swing ending the spectacle shortly after the switch-on.

Festive food was also sold in the food court as residents enjoyed the entertainment on offer.

Reenactors and a magician also gave families plenty of activities along with The Sock Christmas Arts and Crafts Fair in Loughborough Town Hall. A charity Christmas Market also took place in the town centre.
