Developer bids to build 175 homes on farmland

- News Reporter By SHANNEN HEADLEY

A developer has applied for permission to build 175 homes on farmland on the outskirts of a Leicestershire village.

Barwood Securities has filed a planning application to Charnwood Borough Council for the development at Peashill Farm, Sileby.

The site is located to the west of Ratcliffe Road and to the south east of Sileby village, next to land on which Davidsons Homes is already building its 170-home Ratcliffe Gardens development. In a statement, Barwood Securities said its development, known as phase 2, would provide “high quality” homes which would “integrate sensitively” with Davidsons’ Homes development, known as phase 1.

The land identified for phase 2 comprises 7.97 hectares of agricultural land, located to the west of Ratcliffe Road and south-east of phase 1.

The development would be accessed off Ratcliffe Road via a link road.

Barwood said its designs were “ecologically driven” and that the development would include open water, meadows and wildflower areas to attract birds, bees and other species.

The application will be considered by the borough council’s planners before a decision is reached.
