Quorn have to settle for share of the spoils

-

UHLSPORT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION NORTH QUORN AFC 1 NEWARK FC 1 IN THE last few weeks. Quorn have seemed to get their spark back following two results of a combative 2-1 loss to second place Gresley and strong draw against Anstey Nomads in third place in the first two games under new manager Richard Lavery.

The game proved to be a opportunity to start gaining the important three points but also a win for morale.

In the first 45 minutes Quorn came out strong and had much of the possession and chances but sadly no other goals to report however hitting the crossbar and post on two occasions seemed to look like we was not getting the rub of the green today.

In the 69th minute the rewards finally came Quorn’s way when debutant Moussa Cisse skillfully backheeled a pass to pacey winger Tawanda Mangondoza who carmly hit a low powerful shot under the body of the Newark goalkeeper to give Quorn the lead.

However it only took two minutes for the visitors to equalise as Brandon Fox took down the attacking Newark player in the penalty box. Quorn goalkeeper Max Culverwell was able to get his hand to Daniel Meadows’ spotkick but it was not enough to divert the ball from the net.

The equaliser proved to be a leveller in all aspects as both teams struggled to then get into the flow which saw out the final whistle blew and a valueable point gained for Quorn.

Next up Quorn host Pinchbeck United on Saturday (November 27). It is clear that we are heading in the right direction. Rich, Lee and Tom have done a superb job and we are sure it will only be matter of time when we find our stride again and get up the table.
