Charities get boost thanks to workers
THE Amazon fulfilment centre in Kegworth has donated more than £1,000 to three charities in the East Midlands.
Women’s Aid Leicestershire received a donation of £700, while me&dee and East Midlands Immediate Care each received donations of £500 following nominations from team members at the fulfilment centre.
Women’s Aid Leicestershire provides services for victims of domestic abuse.
Me&dee provides support for adults and children facing lifethreatening conditions. The charity helps give families a break from the daily stress of pain, hospitals and financial worries.
East Midlands Immediate Care is an independent, not-for-profit, registered charity of specialist volunteer doctors based across the East Midlands who assist the East Midlands Ambulance Service.
Amy Duggins, who nominated me&dee for the donation, said: “I’m so pleased me&dee has been selected for this donation. I’ve seen the difference that this charity makes, and I hope this donation gives the staff and volunteers a boost.”
Celia Syme, general manager at Amazon in Kegworth, said: “At Amazon, we’re passionate about supporting our community and I’m pleased we could lend these brilliant East Midlands charities a helping hand.”
Mark Harrison from me&dee said: “On behalf of everyone at me&dee, I want to thank Amy and the rest of the Amazon team for their support. The families we help, both adults and children, who are facing life changing, life shortening and terminal conditions would certainly miss out on making special memories together if it wasn’t for donations like this.”
The donations to all three charities were made as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations in the UK.
Amazon is also providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering more than five million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
The e-commerce team has also raised £1,000 for charity to mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
The Amazon fulfilment centre donated the money to the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) as part of the global Amazon Goes Gold campaign.
Now in its fifth year, #AmazonGoesGold is a global initiative highlighting, supporting and amplifying the work done by organisations to increase survival rates through lifesaving treatments and research.
Celia said: “It’s fantastic to support
CCLG as part of this year’s Amazon Goes Gold campaign.
“We hope the donation provides a boost to the staff and volunteers who do so much for the children in our community.”
Each year, Amazon supports and collaborates with childhood cancer organisations across Europe. The 2021 charity partners include the Starlight Foundation, Together for Short Lives and CCLG.
The Kegworth team held a monthlong series of gold-themed events to recognise the international colour for childhood cancer.
One of the events was a 48-hour
PJammin’ party. The team in Kegworth joined colleagues across the UK by wearing pyjamas to work in honour of children who spend every day in their PJs during treatment.
One of the Amazon employees at the fulfilment centre who took part in Amazon Goes Gold is Martin Hayburn.
He said: “It’s great that Amazon continues to support childhood cancer organisations both here in Kegworth and around the world.
“I loved taking part in the activities at our site, and I’m glad we are able to make this donation to such a brilliant charity in our community.”
