COMMUNITY BREAKFASTS. Community breakfasts followed by Breakfast Church are back on the menu at St. Edward’s Parish Church in Castle Donington on the first Sunday in every month.

Breakfast is from 9am until 9.4 am in St. Edward’s Church Hall with a full English breakfast and vegetarian option available.

At 10am also in the Church Hall there is “a relaxed and informal” Breakfast Church lasting about 40 minutes . It is considered to be “ideal for the family” with craft, song, prayers and a Bible story with “bacon butties for those who missed breakfast earlier.”

For more details parishioners are asked to email www.achurchnearyou. com/church/5267 , or find the church on Facebook or snap the QR code or call 01332 812708.

FESTIVE LIGHTS. Christmas is coming and the ever-popular Festive Lights Extravaganza is already shining in Kirkland Close in Castle Donington in aid of the local Community First responders.

The Close is lit up and families from far and wide have already started to visit the Kirkland Close illuminations.

In Kirkland Close there has been a long tradition of residents lighting up their houses to raise money for charity.

It started many years ago when some residents got together to support the Air Ambulance. What started slowly then became a major event which continued successfully for a long time, raising much needed funds for a worthwhile charity.

In 2014 it was resurrected again by two residents, Bob Baker (who was one of the original instigators) and David Webster and it has slowly grown, raising money once again for the Air Ambulance.

After a tragic accident Bob Baker lost his life at the age of 68. He was attended by the Castle Donington Community First Responders who were very quickly on the scene to attend to Bob prior to the Ambulance arriving.

This local service relies on public donations and as such for the past few years the Christmas Lights extravaganza has been held to raise funds for this vital community service for which many people are grateful.

Last year the money raised on-line and by visitors to the Close helped to buy an additional defibrillator which is located at the Village Hall.

A justgiving webpage has been set up and donations can be made at www. justgiving/crowdfunding/ christmasclose2021
