We’re not paid enough to put up with abuse

-

MANY supermarkets are not enforcing customers wearing masks this time round.

I can understand why, as I work at a supermarket myself. We got abused and shouted at by many people who said they were exempt. Funny how I saw two of them in my GPs’ practice wearing masks for at least 20 minutes. If they can wear a mask for 20 minutes in the doctor’s, they can wear one for 10 mins at a supermarket!

Most retail workers get the minimum wage or no more than 60p per hour above it. We are not paid enough for dealing with abuse.

Also, where masks are worn, I am seeing people wearing them with noses exposed. They say that they can’t cope with disposable masks, but why can’t people try a different type of mask? It’s not like disposable masks are the only masks about.

Also, could people stop wearing disposable gloves when shopping? It’s cross-contamination at its best.

I have seen customers touch their faces, touch many items, pay with cash and then go to a few more shops wearing the same gloves.

Care and medical staff change their gloves with every patient and perhaps more frequently, if they have a messy task.
