Ruling on Aldi plans due soon
A PROPOSAL to build an Aldi supermarket in a county village is expected to be decided upon within weeks.
The company says the store would create up to 40 full-time and parttime jobs.
The plan was first announced by the budget retailer earlier this year, with the new store set to occupy land at Station Road in Castle Donington.
The multi-million pound investment would, if approved, replace the Sherwood Self Store and Castle Printwear warehouse which currently occupy the site.
The plans were formally submitted to planning officials at North West Leicestershire District Council back in April.
Speaking previously, Aldi’s property director Richard Thompson said the store would play a vital role in the Castle Donington community.
“We’ve been looking to bring a new store to Castle Donington for some time and we are extremely excited about the prospect of bringing our fresh, high quality, low price food proposition to more customers,” he said.
“The proposals, which make good use of a brownfield site in a sustainable location, will provide further choice for shoppers.”
