Woman dies after collision in town centre
POLICE ARE APPEALING FOR WITNESSES TO COME FORWARD
AN ELDERLY woman has died after a collision on a busy road on Thursday last week.
The woman, who was in her 80s, was hit by a Peugeot MPV in Frederick Street, Loughborough, shortly before 1pm, prompting a response from both police and the East Midlands Ambulance Service.
The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the collision but later died in hospital. Frederick Street and neighbouring Granby Street were closed for several hours while police conducted inquiries into the incident.
The driver of the Peugeot was not injured in the collision and was assisting officers with their investigations. Officers are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
Detective Constable Kasie Carter said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have seen the collision or seen the vehicle or the pedestrian beforehand to get in touch. As a result of early inquiries, CCTV footage near to the scene has been viewed. We are particularly keen to trace two silver vehicles that appeared on the scene a short time after the collision.”
DC Carter said any information would help inquiries at this stage.
“I would urge the drivers to get in touch, the smallest bit of information may be helpful to the investigation.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101.
