Will 2022 be the time to learn a new skill or subject?

-

WITH a new year on the horizon, there’s no better time to think about learning new skills, improving job prospects or developing a new interest.

People can now sign up for hundreds of part-time day, evening and weekend courses as part of GoLearn, Leicestershire County Council’s Adult Learning Service.

The courses, which start early in 2022, cover a wide range of subjects and take place in venues across the county.

Courses on offer include Italian, Spanish, British Sign Language, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), digital skills, online safety, first aid, pottery, Indian cookery, astronomy, yoga, drawing & painting, stained glass, textiles and much more.

They will be delivered as online, classroom or ‘blended’ learning to allow learners to fit study around life and work.

All learners will receive expert help and support, with tutors on hand to provide help and guidance. Classes start throughout the year and are open for enrolment now.

Councillor Christine Radford, cabinet member for heritage, leisure and arts, said: “With a new year on the way, a lot of people will be thinking about learning a new skill, taking up a new interest or enhancing their employment prospects.

“Our GoLearn adult learning courses offer the ideal opportunity to turn that resolution into reality and can really make a difference to people’s lives.” There are also free courses available for people who are seeking work and looking to gain basic skills, including CV writing, interview skills and online job application support as well as flexible English and maths GCSE and functional skills courses.

GoLearn is also offering an Essential Digital Skills Qualification –a free course aimed at complete IT beginners and which offers a stepping stone to more advanced IT courses and qualifications.

Anyone who enrols on a course before 31 January 2022 will receive a 20 per cent New Year discount on all course fees.

Anyone who is in receipt of certain benefits, or on a low income, can get a discount of up to 70 per cent on course fees and may even be entitled to attend for free.

All courses can be searched online at www.leicestershire.gov.uk/ golearn.

Learners can also call GoLearn on freephone 0800 988 0308 (lines open Monday – Friday 8.30am-7pm) and speak to a member of the team to find out more about the courses, fees or paying by instalments.
