Motorway fire causes long delays
There were long delays on the M1 on Tuesday evening (December 28) after a car fire.
Police rushed to the scene of the incident on the motorway between Junction 21A and 22 heading north.
Drivers were advised to find alternative routes and queues stretched for four miles to J21A, with delays of more than 30 minutes at one stage.
Traffic information service Inrix said two lanes were closed and there was queuing traffic in the area. An update at around 5.20pm said: “Two lanes closed due to car fire on M1 Northbound between J21A A46 (Leicester North / Kirby Muxloe ) and J22 A50 ( Coalville / Ashby-de-la-zouch ).
Police said the incident was cleared at around 6.30pm.
