LOUGHBOROUGH CARILLON LADIES 3 NUNEATON LADIES 2ND XI 1

LOUGHBOROUGH Carillon Ladies returned after the Christmas break for their rearranged fixture against Nuneaton 2s.

Loughborough started strongly with close calls early in the match from Anna Godwin and Lizzie Simpson that were only kept out by a superb effort by the Nuneaton keeper.

Loughborough settled into the match and strong midfield performances from Clare Hawksworth and Nic Murdoch meant they were dominant in the opening 20 minutes. Persistent effort and pressure on the Nuneaton D allowed Anna Godwin to put away a reverse stick pass from captain Julia Rann putting Carillon ahead midday way through the opening 35 minutes.

Nuneaton were unfazed and came back strongly, resulting in a series of penalty corners from which a goal was eventually wrought. At half time the scores were level.

However, following the break Carillon were more organised and determined, with a goal shortly after the renewal of play from an on form Zoe Howick.

Relentless pressure meant that almost all of the second half was played in the Nuneaton half, much of it in their 25 - allowing defenders Marion Godwin, Ruby Gorse and Georgia Relf to augment the attack.

Any breaks from Nuneaton were swiftly and effectively dealt with by Tamsin Perrett. Nuneaton never really recovered and a third goal from Aimee Cleminson sealed Carillon the victory and a 10th unbeaten fixture on the bounce, securing their place as second in the league.

Next week’s match sees the return match of Towcester 3rd XI - the only team to beat Carillon since September,
