Shepshed return to the Dovecote empty handed
PITCHING IN NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE MIDLANDS DIVISION SPALDING UNITED 3 SHEPSHED DYNAMO 0
IT WAS a frustrating afternoon on the road for Shepshed Dynamo as they suffered their third consecutive defeat without scoring with a 3-0 defeat against Spalding United in the Pitching in Northern Premier League Midlands Division.
On a heavy Sir Halley Stewart Field the score line reflected the game at half time as neither side deserved to be in front at the break.
The second half continued in a similar fashion until the final 20 minutes.
Jordan McLeod put the Tulips in front on 70y minutes and then doubled his and Spalding’s tally six minutes later after Brandon Ganley gave away a penalty which he was subsequently sent off for. Former Dynamo midfielder Ben Starkie completed the scoring on 81 minutes.
While Shepshed were en route to
Lincolnshire the game was still in doubt but although heavy conditions the pitch was playable.
It was a topsy turvy first half with few clear cut chances with both sides having passages of play where they were on top.
Both teams looked to over lap down the wings and Jadahn Harper’s cross went into Duggan on two minutes and on his home debut Ben SeymourShove fired a cross wide a minute later.
Shepshed were playing a high defensive line and it wouldn’t be the last time Jordan Wakeling would be called in to a last ditch clearance on eight minutes.
Ganley produced the first save of the game on 11 minutes saving from McLeod.
Shepshed responded with Dempsey Arlott-John’s effort saved by Michael Duggan and from the rebound Duggan held onto debutant Cain Nobles effort on 12 minutes.
Three minutes later Spalding blocked Matt Melbourne’s effort and likewise a further minute later Shaquille O’Neill Brooks blocked Starkie’s shot.
Spalding were looking to press their home advantage Wakeling again with an interception and from the resultant corner Seymour-Shove fired wide on 19 minutes.
Shepshed were awarded a free kick on 28 minutes. James Sneddon’s ball was met by the head of Melbourne but Duggan pulled off the save.
As the half drew to a close Jack Rogers fired over on 42 minutes and Harper cleared from Seymour-Shove in injury time.
Spalding had the first two chances of the second half with SeymourShove going close and forcing a save from Ganley on 53 minutes.
Spalding began to assert themselves down the right hand side and it came to fruition on 70 minutes. Stefan Broccoli’s cross was met at the far post by McLeod to give United the lead.
Six minutes later and they doubled their lead. Ganley committing a foul in the area which the referee immediately pointed to the spot for a penalty and dismissed Ganley. Wakeling went in as stand in keeper but was unable to stop McLeod’s spot kick.
This was a massive game changer for Dynamo and something they could not recover from.
Despite being down to 10 men Shepshed had a half chance shortly after a long ball upfield from Wakeling was met by Arlott-John who fired wide.
Spalding completed the scoring on 81 minutes through Starkie.
Although Dynamo have now gone three games without a win and failed to score the performances have been encouraging and remain 14th in the table.
Shepshed play their first home game of 2022 at The Dovecote Stadium next Saturday with Daventry Town the visitors and fingers crossed will have a near full squad to choose from.
