Food firm supporting Quorn in a dig at rival

THIS IS SPONSORING VILLAGE SIGNS, FOOTBALL CLUB, PUB AND CHIP SHOP

A MEAT-FREE food company has taken a dig at one of its rivals by adopting the village of Quorn.

The firm, This, has taken on the village as its mascot and is sponsoring Quorn’s football team, fish and chip shop and pub.

It now has its name emblazoned on the shirts of the football team and put its own promotional material under the Welcome to Quorn sign as well as on taps and beermats in the pub and napkins and packaging at the chip shop.

The marketing campaign, which comes with a promotional video, seems to be thumbing its nose at meat-free product Quorn which may have been named after the village.

The campaign comes ahead of Veganuary, when a number of people turn to plant-based products in a bid to become healthier.

Andy Shovel, co-founder of This, said: “Quorn is a delightful village, with friendly and welcoming people. Also the food was really fantastic.”

The company said the humourpacked statement is a dig at other plant-based brands which “pile marketing budgets” into big ticket football team sponsorships, as in Quorn backing Liverpool.

Darren Kay, secretary of Quorn AFC, said: “We’re thrilled to have This support our team here and our little village.

“This has brought us round to all things plant-based and we can’t wait to work with it more.”
