- News Reporter By DAVID OWEN

A MAN was in a critical condition in hospital after a crash.

The casualty, who is in his 30s, was taken to the major trauma unit at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre with what were described as lifethreatening injuries.

Emergency services were called to a stretch of the road near Old Dalby, east of the A46 Six Hills junction, shortly after 10pm on Monday (January 10), police said.

Detectives from the police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) said a 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of “causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs”.

Inquiries into the crash continue.

A stretch of the B676 Six Hills Lane, between the A6006 crossroads with Shoby Lane and Perkins Lane, was shut to traffic during the rescue and recovery operation.

It remained closed on Tuesday morning, more than 12 hours after the incident, as crash investigators examined the scene.

A police spokesman said: “At around 10.20pm on Monday, a report was received that a blue Peugeot 306 had left the road on the B676 Six Hills Lane, close to the junction with Lawn Lane, between Old Dalby and Grimston.

“The driver, a man in his 30s, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham, to be treated for injuries that are both life-threatening and life-changing.

“Following early inquiries, a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. He remains in custody.”

Detective Sergeant Paul Hawkins, from the SCIU, said: “I would like to speak to any motorists who were in the area and either saw or captured the blue Peugeot on a dashcam. The car may have been travelling with a red Vauxhall Corsa and I am asking anyone who saw either vehicle to get in touch.

“Likewise, I’d like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision but has not yet contacted police.

“Any information you have, no matter how insignificant you think it may be, could help us establish what happened.”
