THE chance to perform at a popular county music festival is open to the winner of a new talent competition.

Travers Rising Stars is open to bands, singing group or solo artists between the ages of 13 and 30 who live or study in Leicestershire, Northamptonshire or Rutland.

The prize, worth more £5,000, includes recording studio sessions, a photographic studio session and a slot under the lights at this year’s Glastonblaby festival, on Saturday, August 20 at the Westleigh Park ground of Leicester Lions Rugby Club.

The winner will also be invited to perform live sessions at Under The Apple Tree Studios, Oxfordshire, owned by BBC Radio 2 presenter and former Old Grey Whistle Test host “Whispering” Bob Harris.

This year, Glastonbury has a competition stage, on which the Travers Rising Stars will perform.

The winner will be invited to perform on the main festival stage.

Registration is now open online. Entrants must include an unedited video no longer than 10 minutes which will be reviewed by the judging panel and the best will go forward to a live final in Leicester in August.

The competition is organised by the Travers Foundation, a volunteer-run charity that offers financial support to 13 to 30-year-olds to help them realise their dreams in sport, music and the arts.

Kieran Forsey, trustee of the foundation and chairman of Travers Rising Stars, said: “Travers Rising Stars was launched last year to give local musicians a chance to secure a slot at a local festival. “We were delighted at the standard of the entries, and it was a tough job reducing the initial 27 entries to the finalists and then to the very worthy winner, singer-songwriter Nick Hart.”

The closing date for registrations is May 31. See:
