FROM running up Leicester’s tallest tower to plunging out of a plane, from cycling around northern Europe to trekking through the Andes - a hospice is challenging adrenaline seekers to push themselves to new limits with its programme of fund-raising challenges for 2022.

A programme of heart-racing challenges will raise all-important funds for Loros, the Leicester hospice, and provide some thrills to look forward to as we get into the new year.

The fund-raising efforts and donations help to enable Loros to provide care for more than 2,500 patients and their families each year.

The first major event is the Loros Tower Run, which is back on Saturday, March 26.

With 351 steps to tackle up St George’s Tower, leg burn is guaranteed in this ultimate workout to reach the top.

For those keen to go the other way, there’s a chance to plunge down to Earth from 13,000ft the following day, when Loros is giving daring participants the chance to jump out of a plane for an exhilarating tandem skydive.

In the summer, running fanatics and beginners can join Loros on a 10km run through Rothley on Tuesday, June 7.

There’s also the opportunity to venture further afield, Covid restrictions permitting, with the Euro City Cycle scheduled to take place from Wednesday, September 7 to the Sunday.

“Hopefully getting the balance of long rides and time out of the saddle to explore just right, this is an exciting challenge for all abilities,” said a Loros spokesperson.

“Cyclists can find themselves weaving through the rolling British countryside, sampling a stroopwafel in Amsterdam and crossing the finish line with a glass of bubbly in Brussels!”

The adventures don’t stop there, and explorers can journey even further to one of the seven wonders of the modern world with a trek to Machu Picchu, in the Peruvian Andes mountains. This 10-day trip will begin in the Inca capital of Cusco and conquer the world-famous trekking trail from November 4 onwards.

Andrew Ward, of Loros, said: “Challenge events are an absolutely brilliant way to do something different and have an amazing time while supporting a local cause.

“We are proud to present such a variety of events which means that even more people can join the fun this year.

“These events not only allow participants to enjoy perhaps once-in-a-lifetime experiences, but also raise crucial funds for Loros hospice in caring for terminally ill patients and their families.

“We encourage everybody to push themselves to try something new in 2022.”
