UCL PREMIER DIVISION NORTH

QUORN 3 HEATHER ST JOHN’S 1 AFTER last week’s tough 2-2 draw with Eastwood, Quorn played host to Leicestershire rivals Heather St John’s eager to avenge a 4-1 defeat on the opening day of the season.

The team has undergone major changes since then and a revitalised Quorn line-up created early chances in front of a large crowd at the Farley Way stadium, taking the lead on six minutes when a mistake by the Heather defence put the ball into Chris Camwell who put himself in a one and one situation and calmly found the net.

Quorn continued to create chances and dominate the game but in the 25th minute a rare mistake from the Quorn defence saw them concede a penalty and James Spruce converted from the spot to level the game at 1-1.

Quorn regrouped and regained the lead on 36 minutes with an excellent free-kick and helpful deflection from Camwell and that was the score at the halftime break.

After the interval Quorn continued to press and extended their advantage on 50 minutes when a powerful shot across the Heather box from Charlie Marzano forced a save from the Heather keeper, only for it to parry into the path of Ben Gowing who slotted home.

The second half was a good show of defending with both sides digging in deep. The highlight of the half was a superb tackle by Quorn captain Leavi Oshungbure when a rare one and one chance fell to the Heather mumber 10 James Spruce. The cheer from the home crowd showing the appreciation for the Quorn captain as the home side secured all three points.

A club spokesman said: “It was a really good game for the neutral. Two teams who came to play football and they didn’t disappoint.

“The change in our team spirit and confidence is clear for everyone to see.

“And it is wonderful to feel this way again for our football club and village. Our next game is a local derby against Loughborough University at the University Stadium. It’s always a great atmosphere and place to go. We would love to see as many people as possible supporting our town with two teams in good form.”
