Shepshed are sunk by Margetts’ late double

PITCHING IN NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE MIDLANDS DIVISION STAMFORD 2 SHEPSHED DYNAMO 0 PLAY-OFF contenders Stamford scored two goals in the last 30 minutes to claim all three points at the Zeeco Stadium in the Pitching in Northern Premier League Midlands Division.

Dynamo knew it would be a tough afternoon and with Matt Melbourne pulling up before the game they were forced to restructur­e their format.

Against a strong wind Stamford started strongly forcing Brandon Ganley into early saves in the first 10 minutes.

Former Dynamo player Cosmas Matwatsa fired into Ganley on 15 minutes.

Shepshed stemmed the early tide and started to use the blustery conditions to their advantage.

Jack Macmillan’s free kick was tipped over by Dan Haystead on 19 minutes and Haystead tipped the resultant corner from McMillan over.

Three minutes later Haystead defending against the wind tipped over from Macmillan again.

Niall Prendervil­le could have put Shepshed in front on 25 minutes but his header went wide.

On 34 minutes John King’s cross was met by James Blunden to what was to be the final chance of the half.

The Daniels ramped up the pressure second half with Ganley saving on 50 minutes and Toby Ritzema blocking a minute later.

Sean Wright had a gilt chance header went wide on 62 minutes.

A minute later Arlott-John miscued his clearance and Ganley did well to punch clear.

Stamford took the lead on 67 minutes from a throw in which looked to be in Shepshed’s direction, Connor Bartle’s long throw was met at the far post by Margetts.

Reece Morris put Arlott-John through for Shepshed’s best chance of the second half but he put it wide of the right post.

Matwatsa fired wide on 75 minutes and two minutes later Ganley tipped over Bartle’s corner after Margetts fired wide. Margetts on his debut sealed the points curling past Ganley on 91 minutes.

Despite the game beyond their reach the final chance of the game fell to Shepshed Andy Kanga’s chance, saved by Haystead and Jack Rogers effort was blocked.

Although in defeat Shepshed knew it was always a tough ask traveling to one of the play-off contenders

Dynamo failed to take advantage of the wind in the first half and were punished by one of the league’s leading marksman in the second half.

Next up Shepshed host Bedworth United at The Dovecote Stadium on Saturday.
