QUORN 2 LOUGHBOROUGH came into Saturday’s derby game with Quorn AFC full of confidence, having not lost in a month and hitting four past Heanor Town just a week earlier so it was no surprise when manager Jamie Clapham named an unchanged eleven.

Loughborough controlled possession in the early portion of the game before Ethan O’Toole gave them the lead on the 28th minute, firing in at the near post past opposition goalkeeper, Charlie Woods.

However, their lead would only last five minutes when Quorn’s Chris Camwell levelled proceedings after getting on the end of Harry Cibbens’ cross.

Loughborough regained the lead on 35 minutes as Tope Fadahunsi converted from the spot after being tripped in the area.

In the second half Quorn looked to match up Loughborough’s shape as Moussa Cisse was introduced and the defence restructured, an approach that allowed for them to exert more influence in the opening 10 minutes of the second period.

Loughborough responded with a tactical tweak of their own in the 54th minute as Luke Martin replaced Cam Moore. Martin’s introduction to play alongside skipper Sid Kerr in midfield had freed up Loughborough’s George Wilson who wasted little time enjoying his newfound freedom, breaking from midfield and audaciously chipping Woods from at least twenty-five yards just two minutes after the change.

Wilson was the hub of Loughborough’s

attacking threat in the second half with several strikes from distance testing the goalkeeper before he doubled his personal goal tally after combining with Fadahunsi on 66 minutes.

Four goals to the good Loughborough were able to see out the result, despite Quorn bringing the score back to 4-2 it was to be nothing more than a consolation.

Well worth the three points the Scholars now turn their attention to the upcoming 5th round FA Vase tie against Abbey Hey as they look to take one step closer to Wembley.
