Second half strike nets Shepshed first win of ‘22

DIVISION SHEPSHED DYNAMO 1 BEDWORTH UNITED 0 SHEPSHED Dynamo gained their first victory of 2022 with a 1-0 win over Bedworth United at The Dovecote Stadium in the Pitching in Northern Premier League Midlands Division on Saturday afternoon.

John King’s 68th-minute winner secured the three points for Shepshed.

For the second weekend running the blustery conditions played a big part in the game.

Bedworth had the wind advantage in the first half but Brandon Ganley was put under early pressure by a strong back pass from his own captain Jake Betts.

Both teams then fired over on 12 minutes Jack Rogers for Dynamo and Liam Lockett for Bedworth.

Leke Shodunke then fired across the box on 16 minutes before Dynamo manages to scramble clear on 21 minutes.

Ganley then saved from Richard Blythe on 23 minutes after a mistake by Jack Macmillan, a minute later former Dynamo striker Harry Wakefield’s effort was blocked.

Bedworth thought they had taken the lead on 40 minutes, Ganley came out to claim the ball but spilled it. United put the ball into the back of the net but the assistant referee had his flag up for offside.

This was the final chance of the half as the teams went in level at half time.

Jordan Smith hit the upright on 48 minutes but was given offside.

Arlott-John then beat Sam Lomax on 55 minutes but wide of the goal. Two minutes later his corner beat Lomax only for Lockett to clear, from the second corner Toby Ritzema headed wide.

Shepshed took the lead on 68 minutes; Arlott-John fed King, who had only been on the field a minute, in the box and he slotted past the advancing Lomax. Reece Morris then crossed to Arlott-John but Lomax was equal to it.

Dynamo’s final chance fell to Ritzema heading wide on 84 minutes.

Shepshed looked to defend their slender lead and for all the pressure from Bedworth were never seriously threatened as they gained three valuable points.

It was a game of two halves where both teams tried to use the tricky conditions to their advantage. The first three points keeps Shepshed 14th but more importantl­y opened up a five-point advantage over 15th position.
