Reuben’s record high after playing 11 sets in same session

-

THE Leicester Junior League is the largest of its kind in the country and is again building up nicely with 28 teams taking part in the second round of matches housing 69 individual players from clubs all over the county, writes John Bowness.

Faisal Mulla was the top player in Division One with an unbeaten return although his team, KP Lions, was only third.

Top team with greater depths were Winstanley A, who had the two Bhakta brothers, Kai and Kalan, both winning 5 from 6. KP Scorpions were second with three players in rotation in Corey Lancaster and Roma Morjaria, who play together in the senior league, and Zayd Mulla.

Busiest player on the day was Reuben Seeds who emerged undefeated from Division Three for Winstanley D in winning all five sets, and also played six sets in Division Two, winning three of them.

Eleven sets in the same session lay down a new record high.

In Three, it was Winstanley C who were top on the same points as their D team but there was a better sets return with Todd Burrows and Keira Joseph in good form. George Ward Barwell topped Division Two when James Walker won all six sets.

A quarter way into the curtailed Leicester and District League, the two Unicorn teams in Division One are looking strong, especially the breakaway Loughborough Unicorn who defeated Syston Casuals 9-1.

Jared Patel and Geoff Parson both returned maximums while Tim Sheppard won two with Syston’s Jason Woodfield recording a very good victory over Sheppard to prevent the full house.

Meanwhile, Unicorn were beating Wolvey 8-2 with Luke Greenfield and Abhishech Sudhakar both undefeated.

The other team to watch is Knighton Park’s first team who easily accounted for Desford 10-0, their team being Chris Rogers, Reza Kiani and James Berry.

The Park’s second team went down 7-3 in a very closely fought match against Arnesby who had Abe Conteh in good form with three and Ian Brown with two.

George McClurkin scored an excellent two for the losers and was 9-7 up in the fifth against Conteh before going down 11-9.

A two-player Electricity got the better of Desford by 6-4, the latter adding to their three defaulted sets when Martin Brunning, back to his favourite top division, beat Chris Brewer who otherwise won two, while Matt Hobday came out of the fray with a match-winning maximum for the Sparks.

Right at the other end of the spectrum in Division Five found Desford Village IV beating Fleckney III 7-3 when Gemma Hargrave, Gordon Bacon and Finley Bacon all took two.

But it was 14-year-old Jacob Hall who stole the show in winning all three for Fleckney to gain his team a consolation point, winning two of his sets in five games to show good resolve.
