Under application 21/03177/FUL for 22 Costock Road or a proposed two storey side extension and single storey side and rear extension they objected unanimously on the grounds of it being over intensive, out of character and inappropriate for the area and because the proposed extension falls forward of the building line. PARKING CONCERNS. Anti-social and inconsiderate vehicle parking in East Leake is a recurrent problem and the local Parish Council is requesting “that drivers park with consideration at all times for the safety and welfare of others.”

In a recent newsletter, the Parish Council said that it “receives a large amount of complaints regarding parking in and around the village.”

The majority of the parking complaints “stem from inconsiderate parking such as motorists blocking junctions/ driveways, parking on double yellow lines or obstructing pavement access.”

According to the Parish Council, particular problem areas in the village include Costock Road on Sunday mornings and Lantern Lane at school pick up and drop off times.

The Parish Council said: “Badly parked vehicles can obstruct the flow of traffic along roads and can increase the risk of injury to pedestrians and other road users.”

While not necessarily illegal or in contravention of existing Traffic Regulation Orders, The Parish Council said that “this sort of parking can inconvenience other drivers and pedestrians, lead to unnecessary additional on street parking, in some cases be dangerous and if carried out persistently, can lead to disagreements between neighbours.”

The Council highlights the issue of vehicles parked on pavements: “Pavements are provided and constructed for pedestrian use. Vehicles parked on pavements/ junctions and zigzag school markings present a hazard to pedestrians by causing an obstruction, which may result in them having to step off the pavement and onto the highway, thus putting them in danger.”

The Councillors continued: “This also presents a hazard by restricting the width of a pavement, making it difficult for someone with a pushchair or wheelchair to pass safely – again this person may have to go into the highway to avoid the obstruction.”

The Parish Council said it would like to address the issue of anti-social parking and the effect this can have on a community, by requesting that drivers park with consideration at all times for the safety and wellbeing of others. “
