HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. Tentative steps are being taken by Sutton Bonington Horticultural Society towards normality and a programme of talks for winter and spring has been organised.

In January Jeff Bates talked about “Growing and Showing” and on Tursday this week, February 17 Linda Haywood will talk about “Land of Giants: all about Echiums.”

On March 17 “Gardens of North Wales” will be the subject of a talk given by. Mike Davey and on April 21 Andrew Ward will talk about Scents and Desirability.

All meetings start at 7:30pm and are held in the Baptist Church on Main Street in Sutton Bonington.

One or two new members are needed to bolster the committee. The duties are “not onerous” and members from a younger generation would be particularly welcome!

If you are interested in helping run the Society, please contact Colin Blackshaw on 01509 672144

“The new features, installed by Streetwise on behalf of us, builds on the work of a wider project, following an increase in fly-tipping in the area this year with trade waste and household items being dumped in laybys, roads and verges.”

Nottinghamshire Police, Parish Councils and Borough council representatives joined forces last year to stop vehicles on the nearby A453 Remembrance Way, Green Lane and Fox Covert Lane to make checks on trade waste and other drivers.

“The partners are working together to combine resources and share information to support even more local action, including
